The complexity of the immigration law and the deportation process emphasizes the need for legal counsel for the petitions, applications and deportation defense. When laws and procedures are complex and confusing there is a greater need for counsel in order to ensure a just outcome and a fair process. Unfortunately the statistics from the Department of Justice reflect that most immigrants lack legal representation. The Immigration and Nationality Act set forth that immigrants in removal proceedings have the right to counsel but not at the expense of the government. As a consequence of this, more than fifty percent of the immigrants in deportation process cannot obtain legal representation in front of the immigration court. The Immigrants' Protection Center attempts to provide low cost advocacy for immigrants with low resources. We are a private organization and we do not receive funds from the Government.
